The initial inspiration for this project is a theatrical dance performance of the same name, presented by ballerina Ani Collier in 2004 in Sofia. The photographic material gathered during the performance rehearsals was transformed by Lilyana Dvoryanova into three thematic cycles showcased in this exhibition. The project explores the complex emotional and spiritual world of women, capturing its existence and physicality in the cycle Geographies; the diverse biographical roles of women in Biographies, divided into two sub-themes, Dolls and Retro Recipes; and the creative rediscovery and self-expression in Choreographies.
These three cycles also form the basis of the book SEX: FEMALE, which has so far been published in a limited edition of only five artist copies. The entire project blends dance, theater, and text through the camera lens, enhanced by digital processing.
